Celebrating Advent 2021

In this season of waiting and hope, here are a few opportunities to enrich your Advent days:

  • Spend 3 minutes a day on a word to inspire you.
    • #AdventWord offers a daily word, meditation and visual image for your reflection. Images and meditations can be experienced via the AdventWord website, direct daily emails, and FacebookInstagram and Twitter. Audio meditations are available in English, Spanish, French and American Sign Language via the AdventWord website and  YouTube  If you want to respond on social media with your own thoughts or images, use #AdventWord.
  • Go deep into the Christmas Story for the joy of it.
    • Join Pastor Cindy on Thursday evenings at 7:30 pm on Zoom to discover the joy, challenge, exuberance and humor in the Christmas stories. Amy-Jill Levine, professor of New Testament at Vanderbilt University, will be our video guide. Use this Zoom link to join in. There will not be sessions on Dec. 23 or Dec. 30, and the series will conclude with the Magi on Jan. 6.
  • Explore the traditional Advent themes of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love.
    • Sunday worship will continue at 9:30 am, in person and online, including a service of Lessons and Carols on Dec. 19.
  • Sing your way into the Christmas spirit.
    • Dave Stark led us in the annual Christmas carol sing on Dec. 2. Here’s the YouTube recording so you can keep singing all month.
    • We’ll go caroling (outside only) to Immanuel friends after worship on Dec. 12. Contact Chris Cherwien to let her know you want to participate.
  • Be a Christmas Star.
    • This year’s Christmas pageant will include many scenes filmed at many times and places — maybe your neighborhood!
    • The film will premiere at 10:30 am Sunday, Dec. 19, at Immanuel and on YouTube. It will be available to watch anytime after.
