A PRAYER FOR OUR TIME OF DISCOVERY: Immanuel has entered a time of listening, praying, and opening ourselves to the Holy Spirit.  It is a time of discovering the work and future that God intends for us.  During this time, we ask you to pray for openness to the Spirit’s call, and the ability to hear God speaking through each other and through our neighbors.

As you are able, please include this prayer in your daily prayer practice:

O God, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

MOBILE CHURCH
Bags are available to take church with you anywhere you go this summer. The weekly lessons, a journey through the Book of Acts, can be used as devotions or for mobile worship. Guides for each week of the summer will be posted on our website, ilcsp.org, and on our Facebook page.  Download it or print it and enjoy these great stories wherever you are!

All are invited to the one hour Closing Program!

Please come on Friday evening, August 16th at 6:30 p.m. for an hour of sharing by the children of the music and arts camp.  You will delight in hearing and seeing some of the art that the children have created!

TIME OF DISCOVERY
June, July, August 2019
This summer we are embarking on a bold journey to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit by listening to scripture and to each other. Beginning June 2 and ending in mid-September we invite you into daily bible reading, prayer and an opportunity to have a one-on-one conversation with a leader.

Listening to scripture

  • We will be exploring the book of Acts of the Apostles through daily readings and Sunday worship.
    • You can find a calendar of daily readings, questions and prayers (or sign up to have them emailed daily) at ilcsp.org/acts. Print versions are available in the narthex.
    • Each Sunday we will focus on a story from the book of Acts in worship.

Listening to each other

  • If you are invited this summer to have a conversation with a leader at Immanuel about what matters to you in faith and life, please say “Yes!”   Or, better yet, sign up for a conversation in the gathering space or at ilcsp.org/registration.  Approximately 120 conversations will be happening by mid-September.

We are freed in Christ to serve, love and care for our neighbor, and in this work we strive to ensure that all people have means to meet their basic needs. Grounded in God’s love and forgiveness, we are equipped to live and serve here and now, in the world, with all its complexities, tensions and ambiguities. This summer, Immanuel offers several opportunities related to hunger and homelessness.  There are lots of choices – Please join us!

Read Brave at Immanuel
Read Brave Saint Paul is a citywide, inter-generational reading program. The 2019 Read Brave theme is housing, a critical topic in Saint Paul where thousands of people struggle to afford housing.

Adults are invited to read “Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City” by Matthew Desmond.  It is a 2017 Pulitzer-Prize-winning novel, that follows eight Milwaukee families struggling to pay their rent around the 2008 financial crisis.  Pick up one of the 20 copies in the church library, read it, then join in a discussion on August 22 at 6:30pm at Pastor Cindy’s house (2018 Pine Ridge Dr, West St. Paul)

Teens are invited to read Burn, Baby, Burn” by Meg Medina. Set in 1977 Queens, New York, it tells the story about Nora Lopez, a Cuban American teenager, trying to find her place in a city where residents experience violence, racial tension, and housing insecurity.  Pick up one of the 12 copies in the church library, read it, and join a discussion on August 21at 6:30pm at Michelle Stillwell’s house, (968 Marshall Ave).

There is also a discussion of Evicted hosted by the Mac-Groveland faith communities on August 14 from 7-8:30pm at Fairmont Ave UMC on Fairmount Ave.  Bring a snack to share and join in an all community discussion.

FLEA MARKET
Please start going through your home for items to give away. We accept gently used/good condition items. (We cannot take baby equipment including strollers, cribs, gates, car seats, or TVs, computers, & large appliances). The Flea Market will begin accepting donations on Sunday, Sept 22nd.  All proceeds are donated!
