News and Notes December 2nd, 2018

Take the opportunity to begin and end your day in prayer, remaining attentive to God’s gifts in your life.

God of this new morning, you have awakened me to the brightness of your dawn. I begin this day in gratitude, recalling your mercies through the night,
anticipating glimpses of your glory in the hours ahead. Make my face shine today with the joy of your grace, so that others may see your presence and find hope. In Jesus name I pray Amen.

God of love, as the sun has set and night has come, I will not be afraid of the darkness, for you are with me. Your glory never recedes, but is always expanding, bringing more and more people into the sphere of your love.
Thank you for such boundless grace as has been given in Jesus Christ. Make me a mirror of the light of Christ, reflecting his grace to others all my days. In his name I pray. Amen.

The four weeks of chosen Advent lessons, hymns, stories, educational activities, and Sunday worship services informed my research and drawing of the bulletin cover artwork.  The artwork creates a story-within-a-story for our Sundays and our weeks together during Advent.
The story we’re told over the weeks is a narrative telling — just like a book page turning, these stories build upon one another, one page at a time, building in anticipation and hope.
Notes for your own reflection and creativity:

  • Notice the turned illustrated ‘pages’ – what will be next?
  • Take the bulletin home to color with markers or crayons
  • Write a poem, short story, or journal entry on how each Sunday’s story affected or inspired you
  • What bible verse or hymn inspired each piece of art?  How would you have drawn it?

We once again need your help to create Christmas baskets for the families of Wilder Preschool. Tags with suggestions for each family are available on the bulletin board. Gifts should be returned by December 16.

The coordinator at Wilder wrote, “We would LOVE to do the gift baskets again this year. It’s always such a heart-warming feeling to see the difference those baskets make for our children and families. I believe I’ve shared before, but each year these baskets provide relief and hope in a variety of ways. The past two years we’ve had families who weren’t going to celebrate Christmas because a tragedy happened and they could no longer afford gifts or were going to just get children presents and forgo gifts themselves. These baskets assure that they are all able to celebrate together.

Sundays December 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd, 9:15-10:15am in the Gathering Space/East Lounge
We’ll celebrate the season of anticipation and joy with drama, carols and activities for all ages. These intergenerational events will be held in place of regular Sunday school and adult education formats. Come, watch and wait with us for the miracle of Christmas.
There will be no Sunday school on December 30th.

Time is flying!  If you don’t have time to shop before Wednesday Dec. 12th, you can make a donation online. Thank you for considering contributing! All funds are directed to Children’s Hospitals and Clinics, Child Life Department, to enhance the holidays for kids who are undergoing various therapies, and relieve some of the stress for their parents and siblings. Checks should be made out to Children’s Hospitals & Clinics MN. Please add Christian’s Toy Box to the memo line.

Go to https://www.givemn.org/story/Christian-S-Toy-Box to donate on line.

All family members may join the procession and sit together in the front of the sanctuary.
Please meet in the narthex at 10:25am to get organized.
