Take the opportunity to begin and end your day in prayer, remaining attentive to God’s gifts in your life.

Morning
Lord, how I love this season of new beginnings, the opportunity to turn toward you and start again.  Empower me to be a messenger of good news, and a leveling influence along the way, as I seek to be one with you in smoothing out the rough places I encounter.  Amen.

Evening
Lord, you have comforted me throughout this day and rescued me from my exile.  Where I have flourished, I give you thanks; where I have erred, I ask your forgiveness.  Protect me through the night that I may rest in your realm of peace where righteousness makes a home.  Amen.

ADULT FORUM

December 3, 10, & 17  The Birth Story: Fact, Fable or Parable
Join Rebecca Hinz, a pastor-in-waiting, as she explores the book “The First Christmas” by Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan.  Come take a look at the Christmas Stories in Matthew and Luke from a different angle to discern ”What do these stories mean?”

Beginning in the new year, we are experimenting with a new look for Adult Education.  Beginning January 8, there will be two options for Sunday morning Adult learning:

  • Bible Exploration:  Join us in the East Lounge for a discussion based exploration of well-known Bible stories, and how they are relevant in life today.  Each week is independent, so come as you can.  (We are looking for a few adults who are willing to lead discussion.  Materials and training will be provided.)
  • Dive Deep:  for those who want a more intensive study in a small group setting.  We will use the material, “Deepening Faith,” a 6 week program to help participants consider and tell their faith story.  Dive Deep will also be offered as an evening group.  If you are interested in either Dive Deep group, please sign up at the info table.

JOURNEY TO JUSTICE
Sunday, December 10, 11:45 am
This month we turn to the Bible, exploring the question – “If God became human, how does that change the way we think about and work for justice in our community? – How is Christmas related to making a difference in the world?”  Join us for a lively discussion on Sunday, December 10 after church.  Lunch will be provided.

WILDER CHRISTMAS BASKETS
November 26th -December 17th
The Christmas package tags are going fast! Each tag has up to three ideas for possible theme baskets. (like super hero baskets, cooking baskets, or movie nite baskets.)  Take a tag, choose a theme, and fill a basket, bag, or box. (Please do not spend over $60 on the gifts) You can share a tag with another person if you wish. Filled baskets must be returned to the church no later than December 17th.

CHRISTIAN’S TOY BOX 2017
(Begun in memory of Christian Olaf Osen, 8 year-old Leukemia victim)
Immanuel members have been bringing a dose of Christmas to hospitalized children since 2001!  THANK YOU!

When circumstances require a child to be in the hospital during the holidays it affects the whole family and creates stress and havoc beyond imagination. Unfortunately, there are always children who cannot celebrate Christmas at home due to medical reasons. Our goal is to ease the stress, show that we care about what they are going through, and share some Christmas glad tidings with these families.

Your donations of new, unwrapped toys and gifts for children aged 0-18 are anticipated and appreciated at both Mpls and St. Paul Children’s Hospitals each year. Donating is easy!  Beginning today, drop off a toy or gift in the green toy box outside the office by Dec. 13th, or visit the givemn webpage to give an online donation, any time, year-round.
https://givemn.org/fundraiser/Christian-S-Toy-Box. Checks may be written to MN Children’s Hospitals & Clinics, with Christian’s Toy Box written on the memo line. 100% of your donation will be used for child patients.  Thank you for your generosity!

WARM UP YOUR VOICES!
Christmas Caroling, Sunday, December 17, 11:30am
Bring some Christmas cheer to our homebound members and those living in care centers.  Meet in the Fellowship Hall after the late service for a light lunch, then off to sing some Christmas carols.  Afterward there are treats and hot chocolate.  Please sign up at the info table, or speak with Chris Cherwien (ccherwien@ilcsp.org)  if you can join us so we can have transportation for everyone.  Bring a friend!!
