News and Notes July 7, 2019

A PRAYER FOR OUR TIME OF DISCOVERY: Immanuel has entered a time of listening, praying, and opening ourselves to the Holy Spirit.  It is a time of discovering the work and future that God intends for us.  During this time, we ask you to pray for openness to the Spirit’s call, and the ability to hear God speaking through each other and through our neighbors.

As you are able, please include this prayer in your daily prayer practice:

O God, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Bags are available to take church with you anywhere you go this summer. The weekly lessons, a journey through the Book of Acts, can be used as devotions or for mobile worship. Guides for each week of the summer will be posted on our website, ilcsp.org, and on our Facebook page.  Download it or print it and enjoy these great stories wherever you are!

5:30 – 7:30 pm (or after work until everyone goes home)

Bang! Here we go again with another bunch of brew pubs to visit. Don’t be Surly: Clutch some cash and have a taste from the Yeorg’s Barrel! (in theory).

June, July, August 2019
This summer we are embarking on a bold journey to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit by listening to scripture and to each other. Beginning June 2 and ending in mid-September we invite you into daily bible reading, prayer and an opportunity to have a one-on-one conversation with a leader.

Listening to scripture

We will be exploring the book of Acts of the Apostles through daily readings and Sunday worship.

  • You can find a calendar of daily readings, questions and prayers (or sign up to have them emailed daily) at ilcsp.org/acts. Print versions are available in the narthex.
  • Each Sunday we will focus on a story from the book of Acts in worship. If you are invited this summer to have a conversation with a leader at Immanuel about what matters to you in faith and life, please say “Yes!”   Or, better yet, sign up for a conversation in the gathering space or at ilcsp.org/registration.  Approximately 120 conversations will be happening by mid-September.

Listening to each other

  • If you are invited this summer to have a conversation with a leader at Immanuel about what matters to you in faith and life, please say “Yes!”   Or, better yet, sign up for a conversation in the gathering space or at ilcsp.org/registration.  Approximately 120 conversations will be happening by mid-September.

We are freed in Christ to serve, love and care for our neighbor, and in this work we strive to ensure that all people have means to meet their basic needs. Grounded in God’s love and forgiveness, we are equipped to live and serve here and now, in the world, with all its complexities, tensions and ambiguities. This summer, Immanuel offers several opportunities related to hunger and homelessness.  There are lots of choices – Please join us!

Staff at Wilder Child Development Center provide a year- round internal food bank so their students have enough to eat throughout the weekend. They’ve requested our help with keeping it stocked.  Bring a grocery bag labeled “Wilder Preschool” packed with some or all of the following items and set it by Emily’s office door. We’ll deliver the bags as we get them.
•    Cheerios/Corn Chex/Rice Chex
•    Pasta/quinoa/brown rice
•    Boxed macaroni and cheese
•    Canned tuna/canned chicken
•    Peanut butter
•    Applesauce (unsweetened)
•    Ramen/chicken noodle soup
•    Canned fruit in juice
•    Canned vegetables
•    Whole grain crackers

Immanuel Lutheran helps provide weekly dinners to the LSS Safe House for the summer. A safe place for homeless teens.
