News and Notes July 8th, 2018

Take the opportunity to begin and end your day in prayer, remaining attentive to God’s gifts in your life.

Loving God, as this day opens into new and untold possibility, purge me of my compulsive need to carry useless baggage—physically, mentally, or emotionally. Teach me to walk simply with you as I trust in your abundant provision. Amen.

Lord, as I come to the close of this day, I thank you for the gift of attentiveness and for every moment that the eye of my heart was fixed on you. When I failed, you were with me, and when I wavered, you were there, for there is no place that you are not. And so I rest in peace this night, for your grace is more than sufficient for me. Amen

Bags are available on the bookshelf under the bulletin board to take church with you on vacation, to the cabin or anywhere you go this summer. Each bag contains all you will need to worship together, with both “active” and “slow” devotions. Guides for each week of the summer will be posted on our website, ilcsp.org. Download it or print it and take church with you wherever you go!

We only need 2 more meals for the summer – one in August and one in September!

Immanuel will be providing meals each Thursday for 6 youth at Safe House, the LSS Emergency Shelter for Teens. You can cook the meal at home with your family and friends, and deliver it to Safe House (in Merriam Park). Use this link to sign up.  https://www.carecalendar.org/logon/270838

BY THE NUMBERS • Each year, we collect new backpacks, calculators, and other school essentials to benefit school children from low-income and homeless families being served through ten different programs in the East Metro. • Just one of these partners, the St. Paul Public Schools Title 1 Program for Homeless Children and Families, serves nearly 2,000 homeless students each year. • Last year, together with 27 area faith communities, plus individual donors, we collected more than $20,000 of school supplies filling 525 backpacks for local students in need. Watch for the display in the Gathering Space for more information.
