As you consider making a commitment to Immanuel’s Rejoice! Campaign, here are answers to a few common questions.

Q:  What is the goal of the capital campaign? 

A:  The goal is to raise $500,000 over three years to complete payments on Immanuel’s mortgage, create a fund for future maintenance & repairs, and support the St. Paul Area Synod’s Planting Hope Campaign.  This goal was arrived at with the help of a consultant and approved by Immanuel’s Council.

Q:  How much remains on the mortgage?

A:  By May, when campaign payments begin, we anticipate approximately $140,000 remaining of our mortgage principal.  With regular payments, we will pay off the mortgage in the first half of 2023.

Q:  Why are we raising more than we need to pay off the mortgage?

A:  Immanuel has a wonderful building which will serve us well for many years, but only if we maintain it well.  In the next five to seven years, we are anticipating needs such as a new roof, sanctuary air conditioning replacement, elevator modifications, and outdoor signage and landscape upgrades.

Q:  How do I know that the building maintenance fund will be used for the building and not other general expenses?

A: Immanuel has a dedicated property maintenance fund outside the annual budget to house these gifts. The fund will be overseen by the Property Team.

Q:  What is the synod’s Planting Hope Campaign?

A: We have been invited to join the 110 congregations of the St. Paul Area in a separate capital campaign to raise funds for evangelism, recruiting new leaders, renewing struggling congregations and a major project for our neighbors on the East Side. Immanuel will commit $40,000 to the campaign. For more information go to https://spas-elca.org/planting-hope/.

Q:  When will this capital campaign begin and end?

A:  The Capital Campaign Team started planning in January. Members are asked to make their campaign commitments on or before April 10. The capital campaign will receive committed funds between May 2022 and April 2025.

Q:  Is giving to the capital campaign over and above regular giving to the general fund?

A:  Yes. Giving to the general fund pays for staff, programs, and building utilities. It is important that members do not reduce their regular giving in order to give to the capital campaign.

Q:  How do I decide how much to give?

A:  You are invited to pray, review campaign material, and visit with the Capital Campaign Team. You may also wish to visit with your financial advisor.  The Campaign Prayer and Giving Tables below are provided to assist your decision. Gifts of all sizes are needed and valued!

Q:  How do I make a commitment to the 2022-2025 capital campaign?

A:  Commitments can be made by returning completed commitment cards to church, making a commitment online at http://ilcsp.org/rejoice/ or e-mailing Parish Administrator Deanna Hesse at dhesse@ilcsp.org. Please make your commitment on or before Sunday, April 10.

Q: Can I make a gift from my IRA?

A: Yes, if you are over age 70 1/2, this may be a good way to make your gift to the Capital Campaign. Here is a link to more information: http://ilcsp.org/ira/
